All schools have been given sole responsibility for their careers programme. This is based on the Gatsby benchmarks and will be evaluated on a regular basis based on these benchmarks. Under guidance from the Department for Education all schools should be working towards these benchmarks and should be fully implemented by 2020.

There are eight benchmarks that have been reviewed in the development of the careers programme for St Edmund’s Catholic Academy:-

  • A stable careers programme
  • Learning from career and labour market information
  • Addressing the needs of each student
  • Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • Encounters with employers and employees
  • Experiences of workplaces
  • Encounters with further and higher education
  • Personal Guidance
