Last week, our Silver and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award students set off on their training expeditions, taking on an exciting and challenging outdoor experience.
Throughout the expedition, students developed key skills needed for their upcoming qualifying journeys. They practised planning and plotting routes, built confidence in navigation using maps and compasses, and learned how to respond effectively to emergency and first aid situations. Campcraft was another important focus, with students gaining hands-on experience in pitching tents, using camping equipment, and cooking nutritious meals using portable stoves.
The group spent a night under canvas, embracing the full expedition experience, before continuing their training the following day. It was fantastic to see students demonstrating resilience, teamwork, and growing independence throughout the trip.
All students completed the expedition successfully and are now well prepared for their assessed expeditions in July, where they will be fully self-sufficient, carrying everything they need in their 65-litre rucksacks.
A huge thank you goes to Mrs Beech, Mrs Hobday, and Mrs Rahman for giving their time and support to make this valuable experience possible.
