Advent Calendar of Prayers-Day 17

17th December 2020Mrs D Ferris

A Day to Slow Down

Lord, I get into a rush as Christmas approaches.

The frantic unease of feeling there’s so much to do,

caught between the joy of giving and the worry of choosing presents

or of not forgetting family and friends,

or leaving them off the Christmas card list.

So today, Lord, may I remember the real meaning of Christmas.

Help me to stop all the rushing just for a moment,

to slow down and remember that it is you

who is really at the heart of it all. Amen

Senior Citizens Christmas Joy From Sixth Form Students

16th December 2020Mrs D Curtis

One of our much loved traditions is our annual St Edmund’s Christmas party for local senior citizens. It is the pinnacle of the year for the Sixth Form and, despite the restrictions due to the current climate, this year was no exception.

The students prepared Christmas presents and cards for the nursing home residents at Sunrise of Tettenhall.

Mrs Hazeldine and Mrs Hogg delivered the gifts to the residents and they were extremely touched to find themselves welcomed by residents singing Christmas carols around a piano.

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) Website Launch

16th December 2020Mrs D Curtis

We are proud to announce St Edmund’s Catholic Academy Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) website is now live.  We would like to extend an invitation to you to find out more, whether you are a student, parent/carer or future employer.

Our innovative Careers Department is run by Miss Buckle and Mrs Hogg, preparing all of our pupils for their future beyond the school gates.

Careers Guidance starts at Year 7 and goes right through to the Upper Sixth (Year 13), informing our students through those all important decisions for their future. We pride ourselves on giving students a well-rounded education and as part of their learning, we have developed a broad and extensive careers programme. This enables students to develop their personal insight, careers knowledge, and career planning and employability skills by offering advice that is personalised, comprehensive and impartial.

Be prepared for the future and take a look why Ofsted say “Sixth Form students benefit from excellent provision”.

Advent Calendar of Prayers- Day 16

16th December 2020Mrs D Ferris

A Day to be Generous

It would be a shame

in all the Christmas concerns

to let these precious days of grace go by,

to let them pass unheeded,

without thinking of all those people

less fortunate than ourselves.

Help us today, Lord, to see YOU

in the faces of the poor,

to respond generously to those in need,

to show goodness to others

in thought and word and deed.

And then to celebrate with joy.

The wondrous day of Your Birth.

Amen

St Edmund’s says “thank-you” to their amazing support staff

15th December 2020Mrs D Curtis

Everybody knows how important St Edmund’s support staff are to our community, however during the times of COVID,  they have risen to unprecedented challenges every day.

Three staff in particular have been on the “front line” during the pandemic, ensuring every pupil is safe and every pupil has the resources they need to learn from home. Mrs Hazeldine (Principal) says,

“Mrs Curtis and Ms Harding have been, quite simply, amazing. They have worked beyond their usual hours, carrying out a range of tasks not usually associated with their working roles.  They have taken on each task with courage, warmth and generosity of spirit.  Our wonderful lead first aider Mrs Baker has also worked tirelessly to care for all of our students and staff,  offering reassurance and guidance at every stage.”

Christmas bouquets were delivered to all three staff with thanks from the Governors, Staff and Students of St Edmund’s Catholic Academy.

Advent Calendar of Prayers-Day 15

15th December 2020Mrs D Ferris

A Day to Follow the Star

Lord, the Wise Men followed the star,

confident it would lead them to you.

Help me today to follow you,

knowing that if I lose the way

you will help and guide me.

Help me to follow your ways,

as the Wise Men followed the dream

and returned by another way

rather than meeting the wishes of Herod.

Lord, be my guide along the way. Amen

An Advent Calendar of Prayers-Day 14

14th December 2020Mrs D Ferris

A Day to Keep Going

Lord, there are days

when I just don’t seem to have time

for anything, for you, for prayer,

for being considerate to others,

even for myself.

On days like this, Lord,

I just have to take each day as it comes,

and get through as best I can.

On days like this Lord,

I just ask you to give me grace

to survive, to get through.

Lord help me to keep going! Amen

An Advent Calendar of Prayers- Day 13

13th December 2020Mrs D Ferris

A Day to Give Thanks

Lord, ‘Thank You’ is something we should say every day,
perhaps even without realising it,
in the shops, on the phone,
at work or home,
especially when someone is kind to us.

Yet how often do we stop to thank you,
Lord, to really thank you in our hearts,
or do we take you for granted too often,
even forget about you altogether?

Lord, help us to give thanks today
for all the joys you give us
through the Saviour’s birth. Amen
