Good luck to all our Year 11 and Year 13 students sitting exams

7th May 2025Mrs D Curtis

The Eco Club pupils spent their meeting after school decorating the pavement of the student entrance with some positive messages for Y11 and Y13 as they come into school for their exams.

Good luck to all our Year 11 and Year 13 students sitting exams. We pray for you:

O Great St. Joseph of Cupertino,
who while on earth did obtain from God the grace
to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew,
obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which I am now preparing.
In return, I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked.
Through Christ our Lord.
St. Joseph of Cupertino, pray for us.

Amen.

Year 9 Football Team Win League and Cup Double! ⚽️

6th May 2025Rachael Stokes

We are incredibly proud to announce that our Year 9 Football Team has completed a fantastic League and Cup double, bringing home even more silverware to St Edmund’s.

Having already been crowned champions of the Wolverhampton Schools Football League, the team travelled to AFC Wulfrunians to face Aldersley in the much-anticipated Cup Final.

The game got off to a tense start. Despite creating a couple of early chances, St Edmund’s quickly found themselves 2-0 down after two sharp goals from Aldersley. Just before the half-time whistle, however, Esandju Almeida pulled one back with a tidy finish to make it 2-1 and give the team hope going into the break.

The second half proved just as eventful. After going 3-1 down, our team showed immense character, determination, and team spirit. Another goal from Esandju and a late equaliser by Monty Buckmaster brought the score to 3-3, setting up a nail-biting finish.

Due to the high temperatures, the match went straight to penalties. Showing nerves of steel, Jake Evans, Ralph O’Connor, Esandju Almeida, Gabe Mullan, and Monty Buckmaster all confidently converted their spot-kicks. The hero of the moment was goalkeeper Adam White, who made a crucial save to secure a well-deserved victory for St Edmund’s.

This result marks an incredible achievement for the team, and we couldn’t be more proud of their resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Please join us in congratulating the full squad:

St Edmund’s Shines Again on the City Stage

6th May 2025Rachael Stokes

A huge congratulations to our incredible St Edmund’s gymnasts who have once again claimed the title of City Gymnastics Champions!

This year, nineteen talented gymnasts represented our school in the city competition, delivering impressive performances across the board. Their clean routines and strong vaults reflected months of dedication, discipline, and teamwork, earning high praise from the judges.

We are especially proud of Karyce Johnson, Emmanuelle Ejeagwu, and Mahdi Asaney, who were crowned individual city champions on floor, vault, and overall – an outstanding achievement!

In the team event, St Edmund’s continued its legacy of excellence by once again taking home the top prize. The team’s victory was secured through the superb efforts and scores of Karyce Johnson, Emily Tsang, Alyssia Morris, Sophie Grove, and Mahdi Asaney.

To all our gymnasts: well done! You were a credit to yourselves, your coaches, and to St Edmund’s.

2nd May 2025Michael Mckearney

Last Wednesday, we held a short meeting for parents of our year 7 students who will be going on retreat to the diocesan retreat centre at Alton Castle on 16th -18th July. At the meeting, Rev was able to give more information about the retreat and to let parents know what their children will be doing there, and how it will help with their faith formation.

If you are a parent whose child is going on this retreat and, for whatever reason, were unable to attend the meeting, please click on the link below to access the presentation Rev gave, and the documentation that was handed out.

Nocturnal Wildlife Survey

24th April 2025Mrs D Curtis
Eco Club pupils and their parents joined experts from the Black Country Amphibian and Reptile Group for a nocturnal wildlife survey of the pond area, to see what impact the restoration work has made so far.
It was very exciting to spot loads of smooth newts!  The data collected this evening suggests that the newt population has gone from “small” (less than 10) this time last year, to “medium” (between 10-100). This is currently their breeding season, so it bodes well for the future that we saw lots of both male and female, and we saw at least one pregnant female. The experts thought that with the clearer water area, they would have a much better chance of breeding and survival.
We also saw bats and owls flying over us.
An unusual Friday night experience, but it was a lovely evening, the pond looked fantastic under the stars on a clear night, and a year 7 student had baked cakes for everyone

Our Budding Chemists Shine in Prestigious Olympiad! ✨

4th April 2025Rowan Ridley

We’re thrilled to share some fantastic news from our brilliant Sixth Form Chemistry students here at St Edmund’s Catholic Academy!

They recently took on the formidable challenge of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Olympiad, a nationwide competition known for really putting Year 13 chemists through their paces.

Now, what makes this even more exciting is that we had some of our talented Year 12 students stepping up to the plate early! And guess what? They smashed it! We’re incredibly proud to announce that Melisa and Gloria, both in Year 12, achieved well-deserved Bronze awards! How amazing is that?!

Adding to the success, our very own Daniel in Year 13 secured a fantastic Silver award! A huge congratulations to Daniel on this brilliant achievement.

We also want to give a massive shout-out to all our other Year 12 students who bravely took part this year. Taking on a competition designed for the year above is no small feat, and we’re so impressed by your willingness to stretch yourselves and embrace the challenge. That’s the St Edmund’s spirit right there!

The Chemistry Olympiad is a brilliant way to ignite a real passion for chemistry that goes beyond the A-level syllabus. It’s all about diving deeper, thinking critically, and honing those problem-solving skills – skills that will stand our students in excellent stead for their future studies and careers.

Well done again to Melisa, Gloria, and Daniel, and to every single student who participated. You’ve done yourselves and St Edmund’s proud! Keep that scientific curiosity burning bright!

Mrs. Letheren Hosts a Heartwarming Parents’ Lunch at St Edmund’s

4th April 2025Rowan Ridley

At St Edmund’s, we cherish the strong sense of community that brings together students, parents, and staff.

This week, Mrs. Letheren hosted a delightful Parents’ Lunch, offering a wonderful opportunity for families to connect and discuss their children’s progress in a relaxed setting.

Parents gathered to share their experiences, exchanging thoughts on their children’s academic journeys, achievements, and overall well-being. The event provided a platform for meaningful conversations, allowing parents to gain different perspectives on school life at St Edmund’s.

Adding to the occasion, several of our sixth formers joined the discussion, including prefects Phallan Wakeley and Aswin Valentine Pushpakaran. Their insights offered parents a firsthand account of student life and the supportive environment our school fosters.

The lunch was a fantastic opportunity for parents to engage with one another, reflecting on their children’s progress while also building connections within the school community. We are grateful to Mrs. Letheren for organising such a valuable event and look forward to more gatherings that strengthen the bond between families and St Edmund’s.

Year 10 Geographers Get Hands-On at Carding Mill Valley!

4th April 2025Rowan Ridley
Our Year 10 Geography students had a fantastic day out this week, swapping the classroom for the beautiful scenery of Carding Mill Valley to support the learning for the GCSE Geography course. It was a brilliant chance to see some of the things we’ve been learning about in action!

The sun was shining, which made exploring the river even better. The students got involved in measuring how fast the water was flowing at different points, as well as checking out how wide and deep it was. It was really interesting to see how these things changed along the river.

They also had a go at something called rock profiling. This basically meant getting up close to the riverbanks and seeing how the rocks and soil were different at each spot – helping them understand how the river erodes and drops things off in different places.

After all that investigating by the water, it was time for a bit of a hike up the Long Mynd. The views from the top were amazing, and seeing the waterfall was a real highlight. It definitely brought to life how powerful water can be in shaping the landscape.

It wasn’t all hard work though! We also got to see some lovely wildlife, including some super cute newborn lambs, a few wild ponies wandering about, and lots of friendly dogs enjoying their walks. It made for a really enjoyable day out in nature.

A big thank you to Mr Petrie, Mrs Hill, Mrs Llewellyn, and Miss Rowland for making the trip happen. It was a great way for our Year 10s to get out of the classroom and experience their Geography lessons in a really fun and practical way. Days like these make learning so much more memorable!
