A squad of nine students from Years 7 to 9, put together by Mr Selvey, produced a memorable performance at a six-a-side tournament held at the Aston Villa Academy on Thursday, 18 June.
After battling through four group matches, recording three victories and just one defeat, the team booked their place in the final. Awaiting them was the very side responsible for their only loss of the day.
Their opponents in the final appeared older, bigger and stronger, the young lions rose to the occasion. They defended resolutely, attacked with purpose and showed tremendous determination throughout the contest. Just as impressive was their sportsmanship. While the opposition became increasingly frustrated under pressure—resorting at times to foul language, intimidation and theatrical appeals—our players remained composed and focused on the game.
The tournament showcased not only the team’s footballing ability but also their character. Every member of the squad played a valuable role, contributing to a performance that reflected great credit on themselves and the school.
