Egg-cellent Egg Donations

12th April 2022Mrs D Curtis

What a novel effort the Sixth Formers made this Lenten period! We are pleased with the 200 Egg-cellent contributions donated.

The Haven Wolverhampton supports women and children who have been subjected to Domestic Abuse and women who are at risk of homelessness. This charity has been selected by the students.

Special thanks to each and every Sixth Former who purchased an Easter egg, Mrs Hogg who collated this huge selection of eggs and to Mrs walker who made the special egg delivery to The Haven.

Happy Easter

Ukrainian Donations Delivered

12th April 2022Mrs D Curtis
Over the past 1/2 term staff and pupils at St Edmund’s have been donating toiletries, food and medical supplies to be sent to help those suffering from the fallout of the Ukraine Invasion.
In coordination with one of our parents, Mrs Willets who has been assisting at the Ukrainian Centre in Wolverhampton, 2 carloads of donations have been sent.
These items have been sorted, packed and are on the way to the people that need them.  A special mention to Mrs Grant, Assistant Head of Year who along with fellow members of the Women’s Ministry of Bethel All Saints Apostolic Church, Wolverhampton have generously added to our collection.
Special thanks also to another of our parents, Mr Nicholls who has very generously donated a lorry load of medical PPE which has also made its way to Ukraine.

Box of Spring Joy & Easter Blessings

11th April 2022Mrs D Curtis

The Haven Wolverhampton does an incredible role supporting women and children who have been subjected to domestic abuse and women who are at risk of homelessness.

This year the Administration Team decided to deliver a box of spring joy and Easter Blessings to the lives of these women by donating hand made daffodil bouquets.

Staff at the Haven were incredibly moved by St Edmund’s generosity and were eager to deliver the bouquets to brighten the lives of the women in need.

Easter Blessings from all at St Edmund’s

11th April 2022Mrs D Curtis

We ended another busy term with our Easter liturgies in the sports hall. It has been over two years since we have been able to join together in prayer and Principal Mrs Hazeldine couldn’t have been more delighted with how the services were received. “I am so filled with pride and gratitude for the respect and engagement shown by our wonderful students today”.

Two services, one for upper school and one for lower school, led by our Chaplain, Fr Sean Gough, and students from all year groups, guided the community through the Stations of the Cross following the sorrow of Jesus’ death and the glory of His resurrection.

The cross (pictured) was created by many of our students who attend at SS Peter and Paul’s parish and was the central focus of our contemplation.

Basketball Success

7th April 2022Mrs D Curtis
“On Tuesday 4th April the Y9 / 10 and Y11 / 6th form basketball teams were invited to the Wolverhampton City Championships due to winning their leagues. All players who have represented the academy since October half term have been absolutely fantastic and finished in first place (a big mention to the Y7 / 8 team here who did not qualify for the final event but did do very well in their league). But on the day the Y9 / 10 team started off the proceedings with a fine victory over St Matthias, overcoming them 35 points to 26. Plenty of star players here and watch this space for a celebration event.
To finish off the evening St Edmund’s played against Moseley Park in the senior competition, where the best players from Y11, 12 and 13 in Wolverhampton pitted their wits against each other and produced a fine display of basketball. A great attacking and defensive display resulted in a 42 – 34 victory to St Edmund’s and a second trophy being collected on the day. A great way to celebrate the end of the basketball season. Well done to all and keep up the hard work, Mr Selvey!
PS – a big thank you to Mr Randhawa for also helping the boys on the day. You star!

Apprenticeship Advice

25th March 2022Mrs D Curtis

Donna from Work Pays came to our Academy this week to give impartial advice on Apprenticeships that are available to our students.

She particularly focussed on Advanced/Level 3 apprenticeships and also degree apprenticeships. Donna explored opportunities at large firms that offer fantastic opportunities and also shared information on more local business. The students were shown how to access and apply for apprenticeships.

We were particularly proud of the engaging questions that were asked by our students which demonstrated they are invested in their futures, aspiring not to have more, but to be more.

Students Enjoy French Breakfast

24th March 2022Mrs D Curtis

A group of language students from Year 8 and Year 10 were bought together to experience the delights of a French breakfast earlier this week.

The restaurant was set up with music, table cloths and waiters and students were first taught how to say restaurant vocabulary in French. Students then ordered a drink and their choice of breakfast. They had the opportunity to try a ‘tartine avec Nutella’ or a traditional french croissant as well as chocolat chaud (hot chocolate) or jus d’orange (orange juice). Students had a wonderful time and enjoyed putting their language skills into practice.

What a wonderful way to experience a taste of being in a restaurant abroad.

Thank you to JLH Languages for delivering a taste of France without having to leave the UK.
