Amelia Joins Commonwealth Games Torch Relay

Amelia Beet, in Year 12, was thrilled to be part of the Commonwealth Games torch relay at Aldersley Stadium held on Sunday 24th July.

Amelia got to run 200 metres with the torch itself and although nervous on the day performed well. The weather remained dry and many memories were made to last a lifetime with staff, family and friends present to celebrate the occasion.

Well done Amelia, we are absolutely thrilled for you! We can’t wait for the Commonwealth games to commence on Thursday 28th July and encourage all our community to get involved during the Summer celebrations putting Birmingham and the Midlands on the world stage.

 

Commonwealth Games Baton Bearer

Queen’s Baton Relay – Commonwealth Games – Birmingham 2022
We are proud and delightd to announce that Year 12 student, Amelia Beet, is St Edmund’s Catholic Academy’s baton bearer for the Commonwealth Games being held at the end of this month in Birmingham. During this prestigious event, Amelia will be handed the baton at Aldersley Leisure Village at 9.12am on Sunday 24th July. Amelia will then transport the baton around the athletics track before passing it on to the next batonbearer.

School Closure Monday 18th July & Tuesday 19th July

Due to the unprecedented temperatures expected this week, St Edmund’s Catholic Academy will be closed to students on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July, reopening on Wednesday 20th July for their end of term liturgy and Edfest celebrations.

Our priority is the health, safety and well-being of all students and staff, particularly regarding travel across Wolverhampton.

All students with a personal computer or device will be expected to participate in remote learning for the next two days.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Social Success

As part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award students need to take up a volunteering activity.  This activity is of their own choosing, some students have done football coaching to younger children, others have worked in charity shops, others have done fundraising events for various charities and others have helped with animal welfare.

All of this hardwork  has a social cost of £180.18 and has made a massive difference to the local community and charities.

Well done to all students involved.

Tettenhall Round Table Make Charitable Donation

Tettenhall Round Table Chairman Shaun Walmsley, Social Officer Rob Buka and Media & PR Officer Paul Landa, visited St Edmund’s on Thursday 23rd June to congratulate Mr Morris on completing his 103 mile charity bike ride from Wolverhampton to Aberdovey last Friday.

They were keen to present a cheque for £500 to add to the already impressive £1213.50 that had already been raised for Compton Care, The Good Shepherd, Cancer Research UK and CAFOD.

Mr Morris successfully completed the challenge in just over 8 hours on 17th June (one of the hottest days of the year) and has been completely overwhelmed by the support from all corners of the school community and beyond.

Bikeability Success

Bikeability at St Edmund’s has been a huge success again.

Year 7 students developed their bike handling and safety skills from Monday 13th June to Tuesday 21st June in partnership with the wonderful team from Wolverhampton City Council, many thanks to them!

Students from all tutors had the opportunity to take part and develop some new skills (and enjoy the sunshine of last week!). Plenty of certificates and badges were handed out and all feedback was positive.

Year 10 Mock Interview Success

St Edmund’s is proud to announce the success of the Year 10 mock interviews which took place on the 8th June 2022. 

Students were subjected to a ten minute interview from one of the thirteen employers who kindly came into the school, followed by a five minute feedback session.   

The year 10 students absolutely loved it and felt that the event had helped them considerably. Whether this was maintaining good eye contact, shaking an employer’s hand firmly or just presenting themselves appropriately, they gained huge amounts from the experience. 

A massive thank you to Carol Codner (Enterprise Advisor) for arranging the event and to all the employers who gave up their time and expertise to help our students!

Richard’s 103 Mile Charity Bike Ride Today

Richard Morris, Assistant Principal: Director of Mathematics, is a long-standing member of staff here at St Edmund’s.

He is an enthusiastic cyclist who enjoys fairly long regular weekend rides with friends, however, he is about to embark on his biggest challenge so far by taking part in the Annual Aberdovey Bike Ride on 17th June.
