27th November 2022Mrs D Curtis

Today is the First Sunday of Advent and the start of a four-week observation which always begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. It represents Isaiah and other prophets in the Bible that predicted the coming of Jesus.

The second Sunday of Advent represents the Bible. The third represents Mary, the mother of Jesus. The fourth represents John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin, who told the people in Israel to get ready for Jesus’ teaching.

St Edmund’s Awarded Anti Bullying Charter

21st November 2022Mrs D Curtis
We are proud and delighted to be awarded with the Anti Bullying status.
The awards, which are given to schools and youth organisations who demonstrate their commitment to preventing and dealing with bullying among young people, were presented at Molineux Stadium last week.

To achieve charter status, schools and youth organisations must submit evidence and policies to support their application based on 5 statements in the charter.

  • Having clear policies: Discussing, monitoring and reviewing anti-bullying policies on a regular basis
  • Take action: Support staff to identify and tackle bullying appropriately
  • Tell: Ensure that pupils are aware that all bullying concerns will be dealt with sensitively and effectively
  • Take action: Report back quickly to parents/carers regarding their concerns on bullying
  • Understand: Seek to learn from anti-bullying good practise elsewhere and utilise the support of City of Wolverhampton Council when appropriate

Sixth Form students, Shadi and Kyle, enjoyed a tour of the stadium, dinner and the award ceremony.

Year 10 Dodgeball Champions

18th November 2022Mrs D Curtis
Congratulations to Year 10 girls who won the City Schools Dodgeball Championships this week.
Unbeaten throughout the whole tournament the girls went into the final against OLSC school. OLSC won the first round with some great catches however St Edmunds fought back and after some powerful throws equalised. We had to win the final round and we did so in style – excellent team work and throwing skills removed the opposition, one by one off the court, resulting in Year 10 girls becoming city champions.
The team will now represent Wolverhampton in the Black Country Games finals in July.
Well done everyone, a fantastic achievement.
Players:- Grace O’Shea-Hamilton, Emily Tsang, Autumn Marchant, Maria Aliamo, Gabby Rhodes, Karyce Johnson, Megan Morgan and Remaiya Parish.

Care Home Experience

8th November 2022Mrs D Curtis

At the beginning of year 13, Carmen and I decided to do a work experience based in a care/residential home. As soon as we were welcomed by the Head of Activities, the residents and the staff, our stereotypical thoughts of a care home disappeared. We soon understood what this care home really meant to them – and to us – and that was truly awe inspiring.

Here we are with one of our favourite residents, Ilene, who gave us some inspirational words about life and the meaning behind it: “In life there are struggles, however they won’t last forever.” The motive behind what she said particularly inspired me as good things do not come easy, but can have amazing outcomes.  She also had a great sense of humour. We also met her husband, Peter, who was just as lovely as his wife.

Mr Hipwood was our main navigator throughout this journey.and he made our work experience very enjoyable with his bubbly personality and great sense of humour. He gave us an insight into how everything works and how the loving care home functions.

This was an experience that I would definitely recommend to anyone who is aspiring to work in healthcare or with the general public, as we have learnt so many transferable skills.

Playmakers Leadership Event

8th November 2022Mrs D Curtis

Well done to twelve Year 7’s who attended the playmakers leadership course at Aldersley Stadium.

I really cherished my experience at the playmakers leadership event. The reason for this is because the members of staff had organised the event very well. They had also taught us how to prepare a game so that everyone was included and would be able to have fun. They showed us that sometimes you have to make the activity easier or harder so that it is still enjoyable for everyone.

We played a variety of different games and socialised with others around us. Some of the activities included working as a team, playing competitive games such as dodgeball, tennis and benchball.

My overall thoughts of this event are that I have become more confident in being a leader by becoming more sociable with others around me.

Thank you to Mrs Ridley for taking the group.
