St Edmund’s Careers Fair 2025

10th January 2025Mrs D Curtis

From film-makers to pharmacists,  from paramedics to primary teachers, St Edmund’s hosted over 30 career professionals who gave their time and expertise to support our young people in finding out about the world of work.

Students were excited to meet various local and national employers from the private sector such as  Zoom,  Aldi, COOP & Merridale as well as public sector roles in medicine, nursing, politics, probation services and social work. They were also introduced to the potential advantages of setting up your own business with nail technicians and dog grooming being very popular. Students were keen to ask questions and explore the pathways and choices available to them and the exhibitors were impressed with how knowledgeable the students were.

Mrs Hazeldine said, “Thank you so much to the range of professionals that joined us today. It was truly a wonderful experience for the students and an insight to their future careers and aspirations.”

Celebrating Our Achievement: The Leading Parent Partnership Award!

8th January 2025Rowan Ridley

We are thrilled to announce that our school has been awarded the Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA)! This prestigious recognition highlights our dedication to fostering strong relationships between the school and our wonderful community of parents and carers.

The LPPA framework promotes active parental participation in school life, leading to positive outcomes for our students. By working together, we’ve seen improvements in pupil progress, punctuality, attendance, and behaviour. We are committed to continuing this collaborative journey, ensuring every child thrives both academically and socially.

A special thank you goes to Mrs. Lethern, who has been instrumental in making this achievement possible. Her initiatives, such as hosting parent breakfasts and regular meetings, have created opportunities for open communication and stronger bonds within our school community.

This award is a reflection of our shared efforts and commitment to nurturing a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to strengthen the partnership between home and school for being part of this journey with us! Together, we are making a difference.

St Ed’s Drama Students Soar to New Heights with Wicked Cast Q&A

8th January 2025Rowan Ridley

Our GCSE and A-Level Drama students defied gravity as they took part in an extraordinary, behind-the-scenes Q&A session with five cast members from the UK touring production of Wicked!

This spellbinding 45-minute experience was packed with fascinating insights, as the performers shared enchanting details about the show, their career journeys, and the trials and tribulations of life in the theatre. From defying the odds to chasing their dreams, the cast members reminded students that, much like Elphaba, being “unlimited” starts with believing in yourself.

Thanks to a special connection with one of the performers, St Ed’s was able to offer this magical and unique opportunity – the kind of experience that truly makes our school “popular” in the realm of arts education. Students eagerly asked questions about the show’s dazzling production, iconic songs, and what it takes to make it in the fiercely competitive world of musical theatre.

Our students were absolutely spellbound (pun fully intended!), hanging on every word as they listened to stories of triumph, challenges, and life-changing moments in the spotlight. This was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that left everyone feeling inspired, motivated, and ready to make good in their own creative journeys.

It’s safe to say that after today, Wicked will always hold a special place in the hearts of our budding performers.

On Thursday, December 19th a fantastic rewards assembly was held to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our Year 8 students this term. The event was filled with excitement as pupils received various prizes and certificates, including recognition for faculty winners, highest merits, Star Awards, and excellent attendance.

There was certainly no shortage of chocolate treats, which added to the fun! It was heartwarming to see all the students take pride in their accomplishments while enjoying the positive and celebratory atmosphere.

A huge congratulations to everyone for their hard work and dedication this term!

Stars of St Edmund’s 2024

19th December 2024Mrs D Curtis

We held our annual Stars of St Edmund’s event this afternoon. This is the highlight of our academic year when students receive certificates and awards for their hard work during the previous year.

Our Principal Speaker was Walker Darke, a St Edmund’s former student, and lead author of the United Nations Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality for Europe, North America, and Central Asia – a big plan to tackle climate change.

In 2023, Walker made history as the first person from Wolverhampton to appear on the Forbes Under 30 list. He earned the spot thanks to his work on sustainable development with international organisations like the UN Industrial Development Organization, UN Economic Commission for Europe, UN Development Programme and the European Union.

Thank you Walker for inspiring pupils to aim high in the profession and choices they make, highlighting the importance of being green and being informed about climate change and overcoming the negativity of who we are and where we are from.

Our musical item ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Moana was performed by Anna Lakeland and Cleo Lovatt.

We’re Dreaming of a “Green” Christmas!

18th December 2024Michael Mckearney

We all know that Christmas is a time when we seem to have more stuff in our homes, often more than we need or would like. To help us think about reusing, recycling, and reducing more this Christmas, the Archdiocese of Birmingham Climate action group have shared this interesting take on the song, “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Certainly makes you think!

Have a Happy, Holy and Green Christmas!

St Ed’s Advent Charity: Bearing the Fruits of Generosity

18th December 2024Rowan Ridley

At St Edmund’s, our cherished tradition of giving during Advent continues to shine brightly. Once again, our staff and students have gone above and beyond, contributing generously to our Christmas food hamper initiative.

This week, these hampers will be distributed to families in our community facing challenges during this season. In the spirit of the Lord’s words, “When I was hungry, you fed me. When I was thirsty, you gave me a drink,” we come together to share love and hope with those in need.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and donated to this meaningful effort.

Your kindness brings light to others and embodies the true spirit of Christmas.

Wishing you all a Happy and Holy Christmas!
