JLH Spanish Immersive Breakfast

25th January 2024Rhiannon Watts-Robinson

On Thursday 11th January a group of 26 students (from years 9, 10 and 11) travelled to Hednesford to take part in an immersive Spanish breakfast at the Olive Tree restaurant, hosted by JLH languages.

As soon as they got off the bus, the students were greeted in Spanish and plunged into an immersive cultural experience of ordering food in a restaurant, learning how to decipher a menu, how to name restaurant vocabulary, and taking part in various memory and decoding activities – all in Spanish!

The languages leaders at JLH were extremely impressed with our students’ pronunciation and keenness to participate in all of the activities. The students enjoyed the tasty breakfast treats and were awarded a certificate to reward their participation – they were all very pleased to experience the trip.

A huge thank you to Miss Blanchette and JLH languages for organising the morning.

The MFL team at St Edmund’s are super proud of our linguists and are looking forward to the French breakfast next month!

Octave of Christian Unity – Day 8

25th January 2024Rhiannon Watts-Robinson

On this eighth and final day of the Octave of Christian Unity, we stand at the culmination of our shared journey towards oneness in Christ. Today, let our hearts overflow with gratitude for the strides we have made in understanding, fellowship, and mutual respect. As we reflect on the prayer of Jesus for unity, may the spirit of reconciliation permeate our souls, reminding us that, despite our diverse traditions, we are bound together as members of the Body of Christ. Let this day be a testament to the transformative power of love, as we commit ourselves anew to fostering unity within the Church. May the bonds formed during this octave extend far beyond its conclusion, creating a legacy of enduring brotherhood and sisterhood in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Finally, brother and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. – 2 Corinthians 13:11

The Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle Feast Day

25th January 2024Rhiannon Watts-Robinson

The Feast Day of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle commemorates a pivotal moment in Christian history. Saul, a zealous persecutor of Christians, encountered the divine on the road to Damascus, experiencing a radical conversion that transformed him into the Apostle Paul, one of the greatest evangelists of the faith. This day is a poignant reminder of God’s boundless mercy and the possibility of redemption for even the most hardened hearts. We reflect on Saint Paul’s journey, his unwavering commitment to spreading the Gospel, and the profound impact of his letters that form a significant part of the New Testament. The Feast Day of the Conversion of Saint Paul serves as an inspiration for us to embrace the transformative power of God’s grace and to be open to the unexpected ways in which He can work in their lives.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them – yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. – 1 Corinthians 15:10

As we embark upon the seventh day of the Octave of Christian Unity, our hearts are drawn closer together in the pursuit of oneness in Christ. Today, let us reflect on the progress we have made, celebrating the bridges of understanding and fellowship we have built. May this day be marked by a deepening commitment to breaking down the walls of division, fostering a spirit of love that transcends theological differences. Let us earnestly pray for the grace to overcome any remaining obstacles, recognizing that our unity reflects the radiant diversity within the Body of Christ. Inspired by the example of Jesus, who prayed for our unity, may this day strengthen our resolve to walk hand in hand as brothers and sisters in Christ, bearing witness to the transformative power of love and unity within the Church and the world.

until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. – Ephesians 4:13

The Feast Day of Saint Francis de Sales is a moment of joy and reflection on the life of this remarkable saint. As the patron saint of writers and communicators, Saint Francis de Sales left an enduring legacy of gentle persuasion, profound spirituality, and unwavering faith. On this sacred day, we commemorate his teachings that emphasise the universal call to holiness and the importance of living a life filled with love and compassion. We turn to Saint Francis de Sales for inspiration, seeking his intercession in navigating the challenges of communication and promoting peace. The Feast Day serves as a reminder to emulate his virtues, fostering a spirit of kindness, understanding, and devotion in the service of God and humanity.

Octave of Christian Unity – Day 6

23rd January 2024Rhiannon Watts-Robinson

On this sixth day of the Octave of Christian Unity, we continue our journey towards greater harmony and understanding within the Body of Christ. As we reflect upon the call to unity, let us earnestly pray for the healing of wounds and the restoration of broken relationships among believers. May this day be a time of reconciliation, where hearts are softened, and differences are embraced as opportunities for growth and shared learning. In the spirit of Christ’s love, let us strive for unity that goes beyond mere tolerance to a genuine appreciation of the unique gifts each tradition brings to our collective faith. As we join hands in prayer and fellowship, may the bonds of Christian unity become increasingly evident, radiating the love and peace of Christ to a world in need.

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. – Colossians 3:13-14

As we reach the fifth day of the Octave of Christian Unity, let our hearts be filled with a renewed commitment to the prayer of Jesus, that we may be one. Today, let us reflect on the interconnectedness of our faith and the shared purpose that binds us together. In the spirit of reconciliation, may we seek understanding, forgiveness, and common ground among the diverse members of the Body of Christ.
