Code Club Launch

7th November 2024Mrs D Curtis

Wednesday marked the launch of our school’s very first Code Club, and what a fantastic start it was! Our students dove straight into coding, learning the basics of programming while creating their own interactive games.

From designing simple animations to coding game logic, they explored how to bring their creative ideas to life through code. Watching them create, troubleshoot, collaborate, and see their games come alive was truly inspiring.

We’re so proud of their enthusiasm and can’t wait to see what they create next!

Exploring the Science of Colour with Year 8!

6th November 2024Mrs D Curtis

Our Year 8 Computer Science students have been diving into the world of colour using an interactive RGB Venn diagram!  By experimenting with different combinations of red, green, and blue, they’re discovering how computers use binary to create a wide range of colours.

This hands-on lesson is giving them a deeper understanding of binary, but it doesn’t stop there! They’re connecting the dots back to Science, where they’re exploring how light and colour work together. It’s an exciting, cross-curricular journey into the world of colour, blending creativity with logic and technical skills.  ‍‍

Conclusion of Rosary Rally – October 2024

4th November 2024Mrs D Curtis

Every May and October at St Edmund’s, we focus prayer in the Chapel on praying the Holy Rosary. We do one section (called a “decade” or “mystery”) each day, and students lead this in a different language – usually one that is taught in school or spoken by our students and their families. This October we prayed in 18 different languages, which set a new record for us. Today we concluded our prayers in Polish (the fourth Glorious Mystery)  and then the final mystery was prayed in Latin, the universal language of the Church. The students, who have led this prayer, have been truly inspirational in the way they have shared their gift of language, and most importantly, their faith. A huge thank you to all who took part in leading this beautiful prayer. The languages in which we prayed were:

English, French, Spanish, Czech, Polish, Igbo, Punjabi, Italian, Malayalam, Tamil, Romanian, Yoruba, German, Shona, Greek, Slovak, Russian and Latin. A true reflection of the universality of the Church, and the beautifully inclusive and diverse nature of our Academy.

May the Lord Jesus bless you and His Blessed Mother keep you always in her love and prayers.

Day in the Life of an ex-Sixth Form Prefect – Part Two

16th October 2024Rowan Ridley

Christina Cudjoe, former Lead Prefect for the 2023/2024 academic year, is now studying Law at Keele University. Known for her leadership, dedication, and strong work ethic, she excelled in her prefect role and is continuing her path of academic success and passion for justice at university. Christina was kind enough to let us in on a glimpse of a Day in the Life of an ex-Sixth Form Prefect!

Hi there, today my day started off with a 10 am Contract Law seminar.

After my seminar, I went to the library to review my notes and prepare for my next lecture which is the Politics Module, this involves a lot of reading!

Next I had some free time and decded to go down to the Student Union and get some posters to put up in my dorm.

Then I had two more Lectures: Politics and Constitutional Law.

After my lectures I wanted to start applying for first year opportunities as well becuase law is a very competitive fields and I wanted to get my foot in the door.

I then went to Mooting Society where there was a Moot Court Workshop. Here we tried on the robes and learned more about Court etiquette Mooting is a simulated court proceeding where law students argue a hypothetical legal case to develop advocacy skills, including legal research, writing, and oral argument.

After this I went home to review my notes and had dinner. Uusally I have Netball or an ACS (Afro Caribbean Society) Meeting but I didn’t have anything today so got to spend the night in my dorm. Thank you for spending the day with me!

Eco Club Litter Pick

Eleven of our pupils from Years 7-13 joined local community group, Friends of Smestow Valley, for an after-school litter pick in the Compton Park area. Inspired by Pope Francis’s Laudate Si message to care for our common home.
Thank you to all those who helped out.
