Gymnastics champions of the West Midlands!

27th January 2026Lisa Day

Sunday marked an outstanding achievement for St Edmund’s gymnastics as seven of our talented students travelled to Stoke-on-Trent to compete in the West Midlands Gymnastics Competition. They returned not only with an impressive collection of medals, but proudly crowned as Overall Regional Champions.

Throughout the competition, our gymnasts demonstrated exceptional composure and skill. Every routine showcased precision and confidence, with polished performances across both floor and vault disciplines. Their success is the result of dedication, perseverance, and countless hours of training—often staying late after school to refine routines, perfect transitions, and support one another as a team.

We are delighted to congratulate the following students on their achievements:

  • Daisy Winwood – U19 Overall West Midlands Individual Floor & Vault Champion

  • Megan Grove – U19 Overall West Midlands Individual Silver Medallist (Floor & Vault)

  • CD, Sophie Grove, Mahdi Asaney, Emmanuel Ejeagwu and Morgan Hamilton – U16 Mixed West Midlands Floor & Vault** – U16 Mixed Milano Team Champions

Congratulations to our magnificent seven—you have made the entire St Edmund’s community incredibly proud.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Grove for accompanying the team and supporting them throughout the competition.

The Floor & Vault team and the Milano team will now go on to represent the West Midlands at the National School Championships later this year. We wish them every success.

Matt Sen Inspires Year 9: Turning Struggle into Success

19th November 2025Rachael Stokes

On Tuesday 11th November, St Edmund’s was privileged to welcome Matt Sen,a former professional boxer turned motivational speaker, who delivered an inspiring talk to our Year 9 students about the power of resilience and determination in overcoming life’s challenges.

Drawing on his own experiences from the boxing ring and beyond, Matt spoke passionately about how success often grows from struggle. His message — titled “The Struggle in Succeed” — encouraged students to reflect on how setbacks and challenges can be powerful opportunities for growth.

Students listened intently as Matt shared powerful insights and practical wisdom, including:

“You have two ears and one mouth — that’s why you should listen twice as much as you talk.”

and

“You can’t change the start of your book, but you can control the ending.”

These words resonated deeply with the audience, sparking thoughtful questions and lively discussion. Many students commented afterwards on how Matt’s story motivated them to stay focused, work hard, and take ownership of their futures.

Matt’s visit reminded us all that success isn’t about avoiding failure — it’s about learning, adapting, and never giving up. His honesty and energy made a lasting impression on everyone present, and we’re grateful to have hosted such an inspiring guest at St Edmund’s.

U15’s Indoor Cricket Success

18th April 2023Mrs D Curtis

The U15’s girls indoor cricket team represented St Edmund’s in the Staffordshire Cricket Tournament recently at Aldersley Leisure Village.

The girls progressed really well and their last league game against OLSC was tense! Some great batting at the very end gave us a win 95 runs to 94. This placed the team into joint 3rd place in the pool so narrowly missing out on the semi finals.

Well done to all players Autumn, Ellie, Megan, Karyce, Victory, Remaiya, Emily, Gabriella and Sharnell. You really improved your skills and understanding.

Year 8 Eating Out in French Style

4th November 2019Miss A Kane

On Friday 11th October twenty Year 8 students went to Olive Grove Pub in Hednesford and had a French restaurant experience ran by JLH Languages. Students spoke only in French for the duration of the three course meal and had to order all of their food and drink in French. Students also had puzzles to solve and games to play whilst there.

Everyone ordered and ate a three course meal, set at a traditional dining table. Some of the food included soup as starter, roast chicken or vegetable lasagne for the main course and a warm french crepe or creme caramel as dessert.

All students had a wonderful time and enjoyed practising their French in a real life situation. Marcel Tombura said “I enjoyed the trip, it was a very exciting opportunity. Overall it was fun, educational and tasty.”

City Schools Gymnastics Championships 2018

23rd March 2018Mrs D Curtis

On Monday 19 March twenty-five students competed in the City Schools Gymnastics held here at St. Edmund’s. There were a great number of gymnasts, both boys and girls, from eleven schools across the City and the standard of the performance were impressive.
