Last Friday, our Year 11 students celebrated their leavers prom at the Grand Station in Wolverhampton and they had a wonderful night.

They came dressed in some beautiful prom dresses and the boys were all looking very smart, they danced the night away and many teachers and staff members joined them to celebrate the end of school in style.

Students Pass their ECDL Course

By S Huynh8th July 2015

Seventeen Year 11 students took part in the ECDL course – an intense one-week course delivered by Mr Vaughan, Miss Toor and Mr Hussain.

Students were required to sit four exams, which is an internationally recognised qualification and a GCSE equivalent, A* to C.

We are very proud that they achieved ten distinctions, including five distinction stars.

“I am really pleased. This extra qualification has helped me secure a place on the course I want to take in Sixth Form.” Bawan Mohamed

‘Walk with Me’ Event

By S Huynh2nd July 2015

Kimberley Ochoa, Year 10 and Lay Chaplain Mrs Ferris had the privilege of going to St Chad’s Cathedral for a Father Hudson’s society Celebration.

During the Liturgy, Archbishop Bernard mentioned the schools in the Dioceses of Birmingham and wanted them to go back to school and give ‘praise and thanksgiving’, on his behalf for all the hard work the teachers and staff  do for the children and for showing God’s love and care every day.

Later he spoke to Kimberley and Mrs Ferris and wanted St Edmund’s to thank the choir and staff for the beautiful music during the Good Shepherd Mass and for all we do a school to support the charity.

This is the first time we have supported the ‘Walk with Me’ event.  Kimberley’s photograph was submitted by Miss Mifflin and Kimberley won the Art category. The theme was ‘Breaking the Chains’. The academy was presented with a beautiful glass plague. She had some tough competition from St Gregory the Great Catholic School in Oxford, Hagley Catholic High School and St Thomas More Catholic School to name but a few, so we are immensely proud of her.

A big thank you must go to Caroline Mifflin for sending off the work.

Next year’s theme is ‘Disabilities’ there is a written section too, so if any other department gets involved, Art & Photography have set the standard!

Jesus Christ Superstar tickets now on Sale

By S Huynh30th June 2015

This year’s summer production of Jesus Christ Superstar is thoroughly underway and the cast have been working very hard over the last few weeks in readiness for the July performances. JCSS is an iconic show and I’m sure that most of you will already know many of the songs.

Pupils from year 7 to year 13 have dedicated a lot of extra time and energy to rehearsing at lunch times and after school in preparation for the show. They are very excited to showcase their talents and hard work to their families, teachers and friends.

This summer we are holding two evening performances on the Thursday 9th July and Friday 10th July. We are happy to announce that tickets are now on sale and can be purchased from either the Visitor Reception or Student Services priced at:

  • £4.00 adults
  • £2.00 concessions
  • or £10.00 family (2 adults & 2 children)

We hope to have all support from families, friends and teachers of St Edmund’s and look forward to seeing you all there.

The Prudential Regulation Authority Trip

By S Huynh29th June 2015

The Prudential Regulation Authority trip took place earlier this month where sixth form students had an exciting day ahead of them. The day started with a three hour drive and students had the opportunity to gain a lot of new ideas that were very much related to economic theory, more widely to the real world as well as their course.

Once in London at The Prudential Regulation Authority, they were taken to the lecture theatre following a thorough security check which included their bags being x-rayed.  The day taught them about a wider context of economics, such as the euro crisis as well as many other real world economic headlines.

Students were privileged to be taught by some of the world’s best economists from the London school of Economics, including Ian Begg. This was also exciting as Ian Begg was on ITV news the previous evening which enforced the high calibre of the speakers. It was a challenging day and students found it interesting to be exposed to degree standard lectures. Overall, it was a very educational trip finished off with a lovely Turkish meal.

Year 10 Higher Education Discovery Day at University of Birmingham

By S Huynh26th June 2015

A group of Year 10 girls spent the day at University of Birmingham on 17th June, participating in an Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Law taster day. The day aimed to introduce pupils to campus life and featured sample lectures, such as an examination of the place of morality in the law system. The girls were shown around the University’s facilities, including Chancellor’s Court, the Great Hall and the famous clock tower.

The day was inspiring, both academically and in terms of career paths, as well as giving pupils the confidence to aim high in their future aspirations.

Year 10 Soli House Retreat

By S Huynh26th June 2015

Year 10 undertook their Soli House retreat on 11th and 12th June, which this year took place at SS Mary and John church in Wolverhampton. They spent the day with volunteers from the Catholic Youth Service’s Soli House group to examine various aspects of identity, faith and personal development.

Their reflections included both practical group work and quiet reflections, including discussing the inspirational stories of role models, and a highly inventive ‘auction’ of human qualities which examined the value of things such as kindness, patience and goodness.
