The Year 10 football team became football champions by winning the Wolverhampton’s Schools’ Under 15 Cup Final, 5-2 against Heath Park.

 

Hosted at the Wolves Academy. Compton Park, on Wednesday 29 March, it was the first time the team had reached a final since Year 7.

 

In the first half Heath Park put pressure on St Edmund’s breaking up the play until Lewis Richards stepped in and scored the first goal of the match, Heath Park then started to build pressure again which resulted in them scoring the equaliser. After halftime the team St Edmund’s start to play with more confidence, Lewis Richards got his second, putting St Edmund’s 2-1 up, St Edmund’s continued to play well against a well organised Heath Park team. Lewis made a great play with Ali Rahemi and scored his hat trick. He said: “It was well worth it and it felt great to be apart of the team.” Heath Park scored another goal making  the score to 3-2.

 

St Edmund’s picked themselves up again and pulled out all of their skills to try and win and it paid off in the end with both Ali Rahemi and Dominik Sasin scoring a goal each and finishing the match with a 5-2 win.

 

Bringing home the cup Ali Rahemi, the team captain, said: “Everyone did an outstanding job and we had supportive fans who backed us up all the way.”
Mr Sohker, Technology with Art & ICT Co-ordinator agreed, saying “It was a spirited performance from a talented group of individuals, all of whom were determined and committed to represent the school in the best way possible, and it culminated in a great win to bring the cup home.”
